FOR 47TH ANNUAL GRAMMY® AWARDS

Commissioned Work Unveiled at Nominee Press Conference in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (Dec. 7, 2004) — Artist Robert Sturman has been selected to create the artwork for the 47th Annual GRAMMY® Awards, it was announced today by The Recording Academy®. His large format, mixed-media piece — created from an original, hand-altered photograph — was unveiled at the press conference announcing the nominations for the upcoming ceremony. It will be used as the official image for the world's premier music event and will grace the cover of the 47th Annual GRAMMY Awards program book and promotional poster. The 47th Annual GRAMMY Awards will be held on Feb. 13, 2005 at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).

"We are proud to have Robert Sturman involved in our 47th GRAMMY Awards," said Recording Academy President Neil Portnow. "His piece brings a human element to our official artwork that helps us celebrate the importance and value of the working musician and other music professionals. Robert's love of music is evident in his body of work, which certainly honors music and its makers, and we greatly appreciate his ongoing support of our MusiCares® Foundation."

In his own words, Sturman ' s work is about the manifestation of being fearless in the expression of light; about connecting with people and places around the world; and about breaking down boundaries by embracing an international consciousness. He travels the world seeking out unique and inspirational subjects to feature in his improvisational and intuitive style of visual art. Sturman's technique combines the immediacy of instant photographic film with the spontaneity of creative inspiration. During early stages of development, he utilizes a carving and scratching technique onto the surface of the film using a variety of handmade tools.
