Mixed-media exhibit will take place in design center

What happens when three artists of exceptional talent and creativity get together to exhibit and demonstrate their work? In a word, “Transformation,” the name of an innovative public exhibit Friday and Saturday, Dec. 19-20, at Creative Flooring Design..

On Friday, the opening will be 5 to 9 p.m. featuring entertainment from The Ride and refreshments. On Saturday. the hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

An unusual mixed-media collaboration of styles and artistic achievements, the “Transformation” exhibit will take place in the design center’s main showroom, as well as the Devi Yoga studio next door.

Noted mosaic artist Robert Dakota of Sedona is organizing the exhibit. He will be showing his work along with Zenon Michalak, a stained glass artist, also from Sedona.

In addition, Robert Sturman, a pioneer in the fusion of art with photography, will be coming from Santa Monica with some of his most famous pieces.

One common thread during the exhibit will be demonstrations of the effects of light and color on various materials.

Dakota will use fire as a medium and also utilize his fiber optic light box to create unusual effects. Michalak will use rear light projection, as well as sunlight, to illuminate his striking piece, “New Warrior of Light.”

Sturman’s surreal and uniquely creative images demand perfect lighting for his photography. For this phase he uses a Polaroid X-70 camera and Polaroid film, then alters the image before the liquids emulsify. In other words, “transformation.”

According to a news release, to Dakota, the exhibit’s premise means “transforming your home from a simple box to a living temple, the kind of energy that surrounds your being has a direct effect on what kind of being you are.” And, he added, “Major transformation is happening all around us.”

Creative Flooring Design is located at 215 Coffee Pot Drive in West Sedona. There is no charge to attend.
